Date and Nut Biscuits

2 c Sifted bread flour
1/2 ts Salt
3 ts Baking powder
1/4 c Shortening
3/4 c Milk
1/2 c Chopped dates
1/2 c Chopped nuts


Mix flour, salt and baking powder. Sift.

Cut in shortening with 2 knives until the consistency of coarse cornmeal.

Stir in the milk, a little at a time, to make a soft dough.

Add nuts and dates.

Turn out onto slightly floured board and knead for 1/2 min.

Roll to 1/2" thickness.

Cut in 2" rounds with floured cutter.

Place on an ungreased sheet.

Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 min.
