Creole Date Loaf
1 lb. dates, pitted and cut
1 jar maraschino cherries, cut
1 1/2 c. nuts, cut up
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. sugar
1 c. rich or canned milk
Boil milk and sugar to a soft ball stage. Add dates and cook 3 minutes. Cool and add nuts, cherries and vanilla. Beat until thick enough to form a roll. Place on damp cloth and place in refrigerator until cold and ready to slice. Dip slice in powdered sugar and eat.
