1/2 c. semisweet chocolate chips
1 tbsp. vegetable shortening
Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Peel the kiwis and cut into thick slices. Stick a wooden skewer or popsicle stick into each slice. In a small pan, melt the chocolate chips and shortening over very low heat and stir until smooth. Dip the kiwi slices into the chocolate mixture, letting the excess drip off. Put the kiwi slices on the baking sheet and refrigerate until the chocolate has set. When set, press a sheet of plastic wrap directly against the surface of the pops to protect them from exposure to air and then refrigerate until ready to serve. Made in minutes, chocolate-dipped "pops" satisfies a sweet tooth with a minimum of candy and a maximum of fruit.
